150th Anniversary Celebrations - ITV News Anglia
Wow, what a fantastic day we had celebrating the school's 150th birthday! No Spitfire display as hoped, but we did appear on ITV News Anglia!
Thanks for everyone's help and support. Here's to the next 150 years!
Autumn Term 2021
Come and join us on Friday 24th September as we celebrate the school's 150th Anniversary. We have plans for a very memorable day and more information will be released in the weeks to come. If you would like to be an organiser or a helping hand just let us know, the more the merrier! If you have any memories of the school when you were a child, especially if you have any old photographs, please do share them with us and we will just take photocopies keeping the originals with their owners. Equally, if you have memories of previous members of staff or headteachers please share your stories with us, we would love to hear them.
Spring Term 2021
What a start to 2021 it has been! Following the government’s announcement on Monday 4th January that the country is going into another lockdown, all the staff at Oakington set in motion the transition from on-site learning to remote learning once again. As we knew there was a possibility of this, we had already done a lot of the preparation in case the situation arose again. However, the scale of the task cannot be underestimated and our teachers have worked incredibly hard to resource and deliver high quality remote education from Tuesday 5th January. Teachers are delivering daily live Zoom sessions, pre-recorded lessons and feedback on the core subjects – reading, writing and maths – as well as coming into school several days to staff the KWVC bubbles. All of our children have engaged well and the parental support has been overwhelming – it really does make a difference! We continue to provide on-site education to children of keyworkers and vulnerable families, and have seen these numbers increase significantly since the lockdown last Spring. It has been lovely to see so many faces ‘virtually’ in our weekly live Celebration Assemblies, as well as all the amazing work being shared on our communication platforms ClassDojo and Tapestry. We have been able to provide a number of devices to families in the school community who either don’t have devices or have multiple children and need extra devices. I would like to say a huge well done and thank you to all of the children and parents in our school community for the fantastic efforts and resilience they have shown in these challenging times. We look forward to the day when our classrooms will be full again, and we can have whole school assemblies sat side-by-side in our school hall
